Hampshire and the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space
is pleased to host the 8th CLUSTER workshop in Durham, NH, USA. The workshop
is scheduled for September 29 to October 1, 2004. Before the workshop there
will be the SWOG meeting on September 27 and the SWT meeting on September
28, 2004.

Conference reception:
A conference reception for
the participants of the education workshop and for the science workshop
is
planned for Sept. 28, 2004
at Holloway Commons.
Conference dinner:
A conference dinner, for
the science workshop participants is planned for Sept. 30 , 2004 afternoon
after an excursion.
We will have dinner in York
Harbor at Foster's Downeast
Clambake where we will enjoy Maine hospitality and delicious seafood
(cost per person $30).
Social Activities:
There will be a social event
organized for September 30. Attendees should indicate their interest on
the registration
form.
Conference Fee:
The conference fee will be
$35 including lunch. (Plus $5 for a lunch on the SWTM day). Please make
checks payable to UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE and mail to Kathy Giberson
UNH Space Science Center, 39 College Road, Durham, NH 03824, USA. Deadline
for the registration fee is August 15, 2004. For changes please read the
secound announcement.
LOCAL INFORMATION
Parking on Campus:
Please be aware that for
parking on campus a permit is needed. Visitors will have to use an
outside parking area. For convenience a limited shuttle service can be
provided. If you park your car on campus without a parking permit your
car will be ticketed and towed.
Hotel Accommodations
The workshop will be held
at the Holloway Commons in Durham, New Hampshire. Holloway Commons is situated
in downstown Durham, within walking distance from the New England Conference
Center.
All Participants will be
required to secure their own room reservations. A block of rooms have been
reserved at the New England Conference Center in Durham and in the Comfort
Inn in Portsmouth until August 20, 2004 (after it will depend on
availability), so please make your reservations by then. After that date
the rooms will be on a space and rate available basis.

be available for workshop participants:

England Conference Center
The New England Conference
Center is located within walking distance of the Holloway Commons. A block
of rooms have been reserved at a rate of $124 per night for single or double
occupancy (plus 8% tax). Free parking is available. Reservations can be
made by calling one of the reservation numbers. (In the US, the number
is 1-800-590-4334. Reservations can also be made by calling the hotel directly
at 603-862-2634 (fax number is 603-862-0634). When making reservations,
please use the reservation form. Reservations
must be accompanied by a check for the first night's lodging or guaranteed
for late arrival with a valid American Express, Diner's Club, VISA, MasterCard
or Discover credit card number. Checks received less than 30 days prior
to the arrival date must also be accompanied by a credit card number. Cancellations
made prior to 8/23/04 will receive a full refund. After 8/23/04 full payment
will be forfeited to the New England Center. No refunds possible for early
departures, changes or cancellations made after 8/23/04.

Additional rooms will also
be available at the Comfort Inn Yoken's, located about 12 miles from the
conference site in Portsmouth. A block of rooms have been reserved at a
rate of $100 per night (plus 8% tax). Free parking is available. Reservations
can be made by calling the toll-free reservation number 1-800 228-5120
or by calling the hotel directly at 603-433-3338. Reservations can be cancelled
at any time up until 4 PM on the date of arrival.
Travel & Transportation
Portsmouth can be reached
via three major airports, all of which are about an hour's drive from Portsmouth.
The Manchester airport is perhaps the most convenient and flights into
Manchester are often cheaper than flights into Boston.
For those not renting a car,
bus/shuttle service is available from both the Boston and Manchester airports.

Hampton
Shuttle (serves both Boston and Manchester)
Provides service direct
to the hotel. From Boston, the fare is $49 one way or $98 round trip. From
Manchester, the fare is $46 one way or $92 round trip. Reservations are
required by 3 PM the day before travel. Call 1 1 800-22-LOGAN (or 603-659-9894)
for schedule and reservations. (Note that the Hampton Shuttle is not affiliated
in any way with the Hampton Inn.)

Flight
Line Shuttle Service (serves both Boston and Manchester)
Provides service from both
Boston and Manchester direct to either the New England Center or to the
Comfort Inn. From Boston's Logan Airport, the cost is $69 each way. From
the Manchester airport, the cost is $59 each way. Reservations are required.

Bus Service (serves Boston only)
This bus service serves
Boston only and provides regularly scheduled bus service from Logan Airport
to the Pease International Tradeport (formerly Pease Air Force Base), located
just a few miles from the conference site. Fares are $20 one-way or $36
round-trip. Reservations are not needed.

By car,
- From Boston:
From Logan Airport, take Route 1A North ramp towards Revere/Lynn.
Follow to Route 60 then follow signs for Route 1 North.
Follow Route 1 North to I-95 North/New Hampshire & all Maine Points.
From I-95 Traveling North - Take Exit 4 (Spaulding Turnpike) for 5 miles.
At Exit 6 West, take Route 4 West for 5 1/2 miles to the Madbury Road traffic
light.
Turn left onto Madbury Road and go one mile to the Edgewood Road stop sign.
Turn right onto Edgewood Road for approximately 1/2 mile to Strafford Avenue,
which is on your left.
Take Strafford Avenue one block and the New England Center is on your right.
Estimated Drive Time - 1 hour, 15 minutes.

From Manchester: Leaving the airport, turn right onto Brown Avenue.
From Brown Avenue, take I-293 to I-93 North.
Once you are on I-93 North, immediately get into the right lane and prepare
to exit right at Exit 7, Route 101 East toward Portsmouth, NH.
Follow Route 101 East for approximately 18 miles and take
Exit 7 Epping/Kingston/Durham, Route 125 North.
Follow Route 125 North for 10 miles to the Lee Traffic Circle, Route 4
East.
Enter the traffic circle and turn right onto Route 4 East toward Portsmouth,
NH.
Follow Route 4 East for 4 miles to the Madbury Road traffic light.
Take a right at the lights onto Madbury Road.
Follow Madbury Road for approximately one mile to the stop sign at
the corner of Madbury and Edgewood Roads.
Turn right onto Edgewood Road for approximately 1/2 mile to Strafford
Avenue, which is on your left.
Take Strafford Avenue one block and the New England Center is on your right.

Banke Museum
Strawbery Banke Museum in
Portsmouth, NH, traces over 300 years of history in one of America's oldest
continuously occupied neighborhoods. The 10-acre site, with its more than

The Children's Museum of
Portsmouth, located in a former town meeting house, features a variety

Albacore Museum
Albacore Park is the site
of a world-famous submarine, the Portsmouth-built USS Albacore, and of
a memorial garden honoring those who lost their lives while serving aboard

from the Sheraton Hotel in Portsmouth. Provides scenic cruises to the Isles

also includes a historic tour of Portsmouth Harbor. Cruise options include
the possibility for an extended layover at Star Island. Other cruises include

MacAuliffe Planetarium (Concord, NH)
About an hour's drive from
Portsmouth, this state-of-the-art planetarium is dedicated to the memory
of New Hampshire school teacher and Challenger astronaut Christa MacAullife.

The
Mount Washington Observatory
Located about two and a
half hours from Portsmouth, this meteorological observatory is located
on top of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast. It is known
for having recorded the highest ever wind velocity of 270 mph. It is also
the site of cosmic ray neutron monitors provided by the University of New
Hampshire. Mount Washington itself is a favorite destination for hikers.
For those who prefer not to hike to the summit, there is an auto road and
a cog railway that provide access
to the summit.

Castle
in the Clouds
Located about an hour from
Portsmouth. Breathtaking views of Lake Winnipesaukee, majestic mountains,
and cascading waterfalls.

Conway
Scenic Railroad (North Conway, NH)
Located about one and a
half hours from Portsmouth. Train rides of varying duration through the
beautiful Mt. Washington Valley and the surrounding White Mountains of
New Hampshire. Some segments are powered by steam locomotive.

America's
Stonehenge (Salem, NH)
Located about 45 minutes
from Portsmouth. One of the largest and possibly oldest megalithic (stone-constructed)
sites in North America. It has long presented a complicated and intriguing
puzzle to archaeologists, astronomers and historians, and presently serves
as a leisurely, educational tour for the whole family.
